Two weeks of matches

Apologies for the delay! Life appears to have been incredibly busy.

This report covers the past two weeks of league action, and I'd like to apologise that it's reaching you a little later than usual. Thank you to all teams for your patience and for continuing to send in your match results promptly — it really helps us keep the league running smoothly.

Division One

It was a cold Monday night over Wyre, but the action on court certainly warmed things up.
Kingfisher B hosted Fleetwood A where Fleetwood produced a dominant performance, running out 24-0 winners.

Despite the one-sided scoreline, there were some excellent rallies and competitive games throughout the evening. The game of the night undoubtedly came from Paul McSweeny and Gordon Jackson against Mike Thomson and Andy Wiseman, which went all the way to setting. Fleetwood's pair just managed to edge it in a thrilling finish.

Fleetwood A's impressive form keeps them firmly in contention at the top of Division One, while Kingfisher B will look to bounce back strongly in their next fixture.

Kirkham A vs Stanley A
Elsewhere in Division One, Kirkham A faced Stanley A in what could prove to be a crucial match in the battle to avoid relegation.
Kirkham rose to the occasion superbly, taking an emphatic 23-1 victory.

The standout performance came from Kathy Howard and Sarah Raynor, who not only delivered consistent results throughout the night but also claimed Stanley's only game, earning them Players of the Match honours.

The result gives Kirkham a valuable boost in confidence and points, while Stanley will look to regroup and rebuild momentum in the coming weeks.

Poulton A vs Poulton B
There was a strong showing in the all-Poulton derby, as Poulton A began their campaign with a convincing 20-4 win over Poulton B.

The match saw some well-fought rallies and spirited play throughout. It was Alex Flemming and Stuart Smeredon who managed to break Poulton A team's perfect run by defeating their first pair in the levels— an impressive effort and a highlight for Poulton B.

For the winning side, Nikki Wilford, Jack Needham, and Hannah Parr were outstanding, each winning all of their games and setting a strong early tone for their season.
Alex Flemming was the standout performer for Poulton B, showing great composure and skill throughout the night.

Fleetwood A vs Poulton B
In another div 1 fixture, Fleetwood A faced Poulton B, with neither team holding a home advantage as both share the same hall.

It was a brilliant display from the Fleetwood ladies, who took all six of their games in commanding fashion. The men's rubbers were more evenly balanced, finishing 3-3, leaving Fleetwood with a 9-3 lead heading into the mixed doubles.

In the mixed, Fleetwood raised their game even further, losing just one of the six matches to close out a strong overall victory.
The standout clash of the night came from Matt Seddon and Lauren Coleman (Poulton B) against David Wiseman and Caroline Andrew (Fleetwood A).
It was a superb spectacle — the first game narrowly going to Fleetwood 22-20, before Poulton edged the second 25-23. A thrilling contest that showcased excellent skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship from both pairs.

Fleetwood's consistency across the board continues to make them one of the sides to beat in Division One.

🌟 Standout Match of the Fortnight

Lightning vs Poulton A
This fortnight's standout match saw Lightning host Poulton A, the current Division One title holders, in what proved to be a thrilling and high-quality encounter.

After the levels, it was Poulton who held a narrow 7-5 lead, having taken four of the ladies' games and three of the men's. However, the momentum shifted dramatically in the mixed doubles, where Lightning mounted an impressive comeback — taking nine of the final twelve games to seal a 14-10 victory.

For the winning side, Oliver Hives delivered a superb performance, winning seven of his eight games. He was closely supported by Sian Nixon and Emily Broadbent, who each contributed six games to Lightning's total.

On the Poulton side, Nikki Wilford was once again a standout, winning five games and continuing her excellent early-season form.

This was a fantastic match played in great spirit, with several close games and high-quality badminton on display — truly deserving of the Game of the Fortnight title.

Kingfisher A vs Kirkham A
In a stunning reversal of fortunes, Kingfisher A then faced Kirkham A, producing a 23-1 victory for Kingfisher.

The dominant performance saw Kingfisher completely take control of the fixture, while Kirkham struggled to find their rhythm on the night. Although Kingfisher fielded a team primarily of reserves it was still a brilliant match.
