And they're off...

18/09/2025

Starrings have been submitted, racquets dusted off and everyone's bought all the gear with no idea ready for the 2025/2026 season.

This week saw the start of games for all four leagues. It's brilliant to see a lot of new and blast from the past names appearing on score sheets.

A huge thank you to everyone this week submitting the scorecards promptly. As mentioned at the AGM earlier this year, statistics work is ongoing behind the scenes where we are looking to collate information in order to award players of the season for all divisions.

As a side note the Blackpool Badminton Christmas do has had a fantastic response and tickets have now been purchased. I will be in touch in relation to payments.

As always a huge thank you to the committee who have worked hard over the summer to get everything in place for the start of the season. At times I've seen Mr Cross more than my own family... but he came armed with cake.... that he didn't make!

So,
Kicking off the season in Division 1 saw Kingfisher A up against their own B team.
With a 23-1 win for the A team it was Michael Hutchinson and Lynne Williams who prevented a nil game defeat.

Last Seasons promoted Poulton B hosted Lightning A. In a fantastic fight where Poulton B picked up a healthy 9 games and took home a point.
Lightning A won the match overall however, unfortunately did have to concede 4 mixed games.

In division 2 new team Lightning C made their debut playing against Stanley B. Stanley B certainly put their all into the match with a 23-1 win. Although the score doesn't suggest so, there were a number of very close games with some going to setting.

In a big match and the featured GAME OF THE WEEK Kirkham B came up against last seasons relegated Lids.
Both teams were fighting from the start where, after the levels it was a right 6-6 with both teams ladies and men's taking 3 games each. Going into the mixed they both had everything to play for. It all came down to the very last game where both Jordan Taylor Millington and Roya Burrow won the first end but it was Katie and James (Surnames unknown) for Lids who stole the win making the overall game a 12-12 draw.
Brilliant games everyone!

Levels 1 saw Bloomfield A host Kirkham A in an 11-5 win. It was Manoj Mandandhar for Bloomfield A who took home the POTM only losing one game.
Lightning A opened their season with a 16-0 defeat to Stanley.

In Levels 2 a double debut for both newly formed teams Kirkham C and Kirkham Juniors but it was Kirkham C who took all the games to start the season with a clean sweep.

Lightning B drove up to Fleetwood B on Thursday evening.
It was John Wright for the winning team who took all his games. Lightning B comfortably won overall 13-3. However special mention to Ben New who won the only 3 games for the losing side.

Thank you and I look forward to the next weeks results coming in.
