As summer nears its end with supermarkets/Home Bargains having their Halloween aisles in full swing, (and dare i say it I'm even sure I've seen the odd bits of tinsel and lights!!) the badminton season is upon us once again!
The Blackpool District Badminton Association is proud to welcome players, clubs, and supporters to the start of the 2025/2026 season.
As ever the Association continues to provide a platform for players of all levels to enjoy the sport, develop their skills, and compete in a spirit of sportsmanship along with enjoying the odd social here and there.
Over the summer, its been great to see a number of clubs and groups of friends hosting sessions and competitive club nights. These have provided a fantastic opportunity for players to catch up (over the beer at the pub after), keep active, and enjoy games with people they wouldn’t normally get the chance to play alongside.
Behind the scenes, myself (Serena) and Mr Cross are working hard to finalise this season’s fixtures. As soon as the schedule is confirmed, full details will be published on the Association’s website so that teams and players can begin preparing for the action ahead. (I must say this is a hard task and Crossy has mastered this every year. This seasons is proving particularly difficult with now 4 divisions (2 mixed and 2 levels) along with a number of clubs playing on the same nights!!)
It is especially encouraging to see a number of new teams joining the league this year, with a notable increase in junior and young adult teams. Their participation highlights the growing interest in badminton among younger players and ensures a strong future for the sport within our community.
We are also hoping to run another League Christmas Celebration this year – a chance for players of all clubs to come together off the court and enjoy a well-earned festive cheer. More information about this event will be shared in due course.
As the season gets underway, captains are kindly reminded to send all completed match sheets to Anthony Cross and Serena Hindle as soon as possible after each fixture. This helps to keep results and league tables up to date for everyone.
I will also add, I am now the Press Secretary for the league. In previous years the weekly reporting has been fantastic and a treat to read however, I am in no way prepared to compete and wont be trying better that... I wouldn't be able to !
Reports will now be fortnightly where I will try to cover as many games but may highlight matches of the week instead. If captains could highlight in their messages games or players which stood out and why that will be greatly appreciated.
This season promises to be an exciting one, with a packed programme of league matches, cup competitions, and social events that bring together the vibrant badminton community across Blackpool.
Whether you are a seasoned competitor, a new club member, or a supporter cheering from the sidelines, BDBA looks forward to building on its proud tradition while embracing fresh opportunities for growth and development in the game.
Here’s to another season of great rallies, close contests, and memorable moments on and off the court.
Thanks everyone and hopefully see you soon.
