CUP MATCHES W/E 7TH APRIL

07/04/2023

GAZETTE TROPHY
Poulton -180 beat Kingfisher B by 69 points.
Newly crowned champions Poulton made easy work of Kingfisher B winning all the games by a huge 249 points before the handicap. The ladies and mens had similar scores to gain 127 points in the levels and after big wins in the first 2 mixed, Poulton found themselves only 3 points behind. In the 3rd mixed Poulton moved ahead in the match and the final 3 sets just increased their lead even further. Despite their large handicap, Poulton will be difficult to beat as they attempt to win the double.

Hesketh Fleetwood B +180 beat Hesketh Fleetwood A by 17 points.
Having lost their league title to Poulton recently, last years Gazette winners HFA lost their second crown in the space of a few weeks in a match which was closely contested. HFB took full advantage of an under strength A team, who were missing key players, to create the shock of the round. On average the A team’s target was to pull back 90 points in the levels and 90 points in the mixed. Although they achieved their mixed target, it was in the levels where determined play kept the B team ahead of the handicap which they maintained to the end of the match. Mike Percy was the B team’s hero as he conceded only 37 points in his 8 games.

BRIDGEWOOD TROPHY
Project 12 -40 beat Stanley C by 126 points.
Stanley fought hard throughout the match but were overcome by consistent play from their visitors. The match was effectively over after the levels. Project’s ladies gained 53 points which was backed up by their men who lost 1 game but still managed to gain 39 points. This was consolidated in the mixed where they gained a further 74 points despite losing 2 games. Project won the match by a huge 166 points less the 40 point handicap. Colin Davison won 2 games and conceded fewest points for Stanley. Project’s Kat Platt and Jon Jackson gained just over 30 points in their separated levels games but exceeded that in their mixed to gain a further 41 points.
