Just like that, January is over...

01/02/2026

This Blackpool Badminton report covers key matche highlights from the past two weeks, with plenty of drama, tight scorelines and standout performances across the divisions.

Division 1

Stanley A endured a tough home fixture against Poulton A, falling to a 21–3 defeat, though there were positives to take as Steven Cannavan and Jason Loffman each claimed two games in a resilient showing.

Stanley A were also back in action in a crucial lower-table clash away at Kingfisher B. Despite Kingfisher edging the overall win, Stanley’s haul of eight games earned them a vital point in the fight to retain Division 1 status.

The headline fixture — and *Game of the Week* — saw Lightning A host Kingfisher A in a match that was far closer than the league table might suggest. With Lightning’s men, led superbly by Amit Mistry, taking all four of his games the match was a tie level at six games apiece heading into the mixed, tension was sky-high. Adrian Greenwood, Alex Mackie and Sharon Hamer were awarded POTM for Kingfisher, while both Amit Mistry and Sian Nixon took 5 for Lightning. It was Kingfisher who edged a thrilling contest 13–11, with a huge five games going to setting. A fantastic advert for Division 1 badminton and full credit to Lightning A for an outstanding performance.

Division 2

Lightning C’s junior side faced their own B team, with Nicky Percy, Graham Cooper and Nathan Bunting delivering perfect cards.
Hard luck to Lightning C and very tough game but strong performance.

Levels 1

Fleetwood A continued their title push in a close encounter against Kirkham Charter A.
Star performances go to Andrew Wiseman and Mike Thomson both for the winning side taking 6 games while Cryil took 5 for Kirkham.

Levels 2

A dominant Lightning B victory over Kirkham Juniors — upside-down scoresheet and all... thanks to Darren Bagleys tech skills— but it was Seb and Arin earning a well-deserved mention for taking the lone game for Lightning B.

Thank you to all teams and captains for submitting the scoresheets promptly. Its always such a joy to see teams putting up a great fight.

Cup draws have now taken place and can be found on the Facebook page or on the website.
We have now included cups for the Levels League this year too! It's great to see how this league has developed over the last few years and the committee feel this is a great innovation for this season and look forward to seeing the competitive games.
