First of all, apologies for the tail-off in reports in the run-up to the Christmas period. Unfortunately, league updates had to take a back seat while a very busy work and life schedule got in the way.
Before Christmas 24 of us attended the Blackpool Badminton do with a meal, the Jepps Band and probably a few too many drinks!
A brillisnt night was had by all and it was lovely to get to speak with people outside of the badminton/match setting.
Thanks again to those supporting the league and keep your eyes peeled for the next social event.
Keeping with the theme of Christmas I hope everyone enjoyed a lovely festive break and managed to get some well-earned rest. It’s such a special time of year to spend with family and friends or those we dont regularly see. It's also a special time while some of us remember those who are sadly no longer with us. Whatever your situation I send my best and hope you enjoyed as much of the festivities as you could.
Now, back to the badminton 🏸
MIXED DIVISION 1
It was a battle of Poulton this week with the return, when Poulton A took on Poulton B. Poulton B put in a strong performance winning four games, but unfortunately had to concede six matches due to an injury. It’s fair to say the final scoreline doesn’t tell the full story, and the match could have been much closer under different circumstances.
Final result: Poulton A 20 – 4 Poulton B.
Another intra-club clash saw Kingfisher A face Kingfisher B, with the B team picking up a fantastic and much-needed point after winning eight games overall.
The ladies’ matches were dominated by Kingfisher A, who took all six games, while the men’s matches were far more evenly contested, with each team winning three games apiece.
A standout performance came from James De Wolfe, who was deservedly named Player of the Match for Kingfisher B, winning six of their eight games on the night.
Sitting top of the division and still unbeaten this season, Fleetwood A continued their impressive run with a 24–0 victory over Kirkham A. Despite the scoreline, several games were closely fought.
A special mention goes to Andy Wiseman and Serena Hindle, who produced a surprise performance by winning one of their games to 4! (Yes, written in the third person… and almost certainly our peak for the second half of the season... its all downhill now!)
MIXED DIVISON 2
In Division Two, Lightning C hosted Stanley B. While the final score finished 22–2 in favour of Stanley, it doesn’t reflect just how competitive many of the games were. Lightning C pushed hard throughout the night and came close to taking several more games but just couldn’t quite get over the line.
Lids were also in action, hosting Kirkham B, who once again picked up an important point by winning eight games.
A big well done to Dave Whiteside and Helena Lampur, who both won all of their games on the night for Lids — a fantastic achievement.
Fixtures Update
LEVELS DIVISION 2
Bloomfield came out stronger with an 11–5 win against Lightning B levels.
It was Junal who was POTM for Bloomfield, taking all his games in an outstanding individual performance. Meanwhile, Jon Jackson, John Wright, and Jacob Bagley each claimed three games for the visitors, ensuring Lightning B remained competitive throughout the night.
Special mention once again goes to the young Lightning duo of Jacob Bagley and Matthew Partridge, who managed to split games with Bloomfield’s first men’s pair — a brilliant result in itself and further evidence of their growing confidence and potential at this level.
Overall, Bloomfield’s consistency across the board proved decisive, but Lightning B can take plenty of positives from their performance, particularly the promising displays from their younger players as the season progresses.
A number of scheduled matches across all divisions have unfortunately had to be rearranged due to hall availability so although the website shows a number of fixtures, some have been rescheduled.
Best of luck to everyone for the upcoming fixtures, here’s to a strong second half of the season and best wishes for 2026.
