playing the levels last would hardly be radical.. we do that in liverpool and bolton..

radical would be like liverpool - 4 men and 4 women in a team.. paired up to create 4 mixed pairs that play each other, and 2 mens and 2nd ladies pair that play each other.

the play new rules and best of 3... (so if you thrash the other team you can be finisheed in an hour and a half.. and only play 4 short games...)

I'll be honest playing badminton is playing badminton to me however having tried to ask all our opposition what they think the general concensus is 'we don't like it'

Main reason being mentioned above that when playing away your 3rd pair are finished 4 whole games before the 2nd pair....There doesn't appear to be much flexibility either in the event of a latecomer due to whatever reason unless you have a 3rd court.......

Not sure what the options are really as I can imagine 3rd pairs would still like a larger variation in game

^^^^Nice to see the Ramsbottom appreciation society is well represented on the forum...... :-s

Yesterday Blackpool 3rds hosted Bolton 3rds at Preesall.

Following the bad result for Blackpool vs Preston at Bloomfield Road, the pressure was on for the baminton players of Blackpool to regain some pride.

After an annoying 30 minute wait for the majority of Bolton to turn up, play got under way. Maybe it was the trip into the wilds or maybe it was too far north, but the Bolton ladies singles player didn't really fancy it at all - 3rd team debutant Dawn Mitchell (BAE SYSTEMS) winning the first game 21-1 forcing the Bolton player to concede! Great start Blackpool, followed by further wins by Dave Clarke (Commonwealth) 21-11, 21-11 and Darren Bagley (Kingfisher) 21-18, 21-17 to give Blackpool an early 3-0 lead - things were looking good!

The ladies doubles included some close fought games with both our ladies pairs going to 3 ends against the Bolton 1st pair. Unfortunately, Ali Crosbie and Alex Mackie (both Kingfisher) lost in a very close contest 19-21, 21-15, 21-23 -actually winning on points 61-59! Dawn Mitchell and Vicki Dunlop (Commonwealth) avenged their defeat with a win 21-15, 13-21, 21-12. The Bolton 2nd ladies pair struggled on the day with both Blackpool pairs enjoying easy wins - Alex and Ali 21-5, 21-7 and Dawn and Vicki 21-9, 21-8. Match score 6-1 to Blackpool.

The mens doubles underlined Blackpool's dominance with Dave Creelman (Albany) and Fergus Munroe (Lids) winning 21-14, 21-11 and then 21-12, 21-9, followed by Dave Clarke and Darren Bagley winning 21-10, 21-11 and 21-14, 21-10 to make it 10-1 to Blackpool and give us all three points!!!!

The mixed provided Bolton with a consolation in taking the 1st mixed in a very hard fought contest against Fergus Munroe and Alex Mackie (Alex having to play with a bad back at this point) 17-21, 21-18, 18-21. Blackpool took all remaining mixed, with Dave Clarke and Vicki Dunlop winning 23-21, 21-18, Dave Creelman and Ali Crosbie winning 20-22, 21-16, 21-10 and Darren Bagley and Dawn Mitchell winning 21-15, 21-17 to leave the final score a convincing 13-2 to a rampant Blackpool!

Quick update,

Last Sunday, the 2nd team travelled to deepest and darkest Bury to take on Whitefield.

Following is a report prepared by team captain Anthony Cross;

Whitefield v. Blackpool 2nd inter-league match 9th November 2008

The 2nd team arrived at Woodhey High School, Ramsbottom 15 minutes early to find the school sports had no electricity! The opposition found an alternative venue at Castle Leisure Centre, Bury which was 10 minutes away.

Fortunately, the new venue could accomodate the match and provided better facilities than the school hall.

Whitefield were missing 2 regular players however, Blackpool 2nd had a strong side with 2 new young players in Andrew Davis and Danny Dicken.

The result was a terrific 10-5 win in Blackpool's favour which means all points to Blackpool.

Team: MEN: Ant Cross (Fleetwood), James Lester (Fleetwood), Stuart Brown (Lids), Danny Dicken (Lids), Andrew Davis (Pilling).

LADIES: Steph Drysdale (Lids), Dawn Whitby (Bispham Tex), Sara Clarke (Commonwealth), Alex Mackie (Kingfisher).

WoooooooHooooooo! What a rush, what a buzz, what delicious novelty to sit at the box and read all them Soor Plooms....wonderfool! Phatazz Chimp (he of the half monkey/half Culo gene), the most tragic of tragedies indeed, was scooshed and wheeched into submission during the recent Top Top Two encounter and was lucky to escape with a point, and only did after the Albanians, sick to the teeth of all the groans and moans and screams, thought it best to throw a few games lest the terrible tantrums turned terminal. Even so, there was an ugly mood in the car park afterwards with security people with big sticks looking for a murder until they realised it was only the Chimp and so what's new? Hardly surprising Bongo and the Cat took leave of absence with all the screeching and roaring and the shiny floor....

Still it was a run-around - and the elegant wizard ‘Dot’ Barrett showed off her cunning and weaselly skills with big Dawn in the ladies, taking a game off Captain Sparky and Slinky Sagar – the first game the Albanians have lost all season. But in the end it was a breeze and it would have been all over bar the screaming much earlier if Auld Creaky had remembered to bring the earplugs but then he has all the excuses…

A week later when the deafness had abated, the Albanians played host to Floatwood C at the Ansdell Arena (AKA The Pits) – and normal service resumed – with the female Albanians hardly dropping any points never mind games and only ‘Rubberneck’ Hives and ‘Pail’ Cross dropping one game each for another 16.2 win. Early days yet but the Albanians seem to be in a cruising mood this season after the crushing defeat of Lids A in the Gazette Trophy in April – and St Annes is awash with rumours of more top signings (from within the DGBA and beyond) in preparation for next season’s Division 1 title race.

Finally, many thanks to ‘Cub’ Reporter, Mungo, who has been doing a splendid job confusing and obfuscating and waxing lyrical – the recent match between Albany B and Mythop A would have made a memorable musical report with Dave ‘Psycho’ Lees and John ‘Harman’ Lees on opposite sides of the net. Not quite Brothers in Arms but very much Dire Straits….

Not long now to the much anticipated annual Doubles Tourney which will take place on St Andrew’s Day (30th Nov) at Thornton Sports Centre. Entry forms should be sent to ODC by tomorrow at the latest. (Late entries might be accepted if they are accompanied with a £20 note). This year we will be sharing the hall with the National Pig Farmers Association so wellies instead of trainers may be appropriate. Also, there will be an additional prize for the most glamorous and innovative use of tartan apparel – on view or otherwise.

See you there…

Morning all,

Few days into the 11th month now, we've even just setup secret santa for the festive period.

I've missed a couple of my match reports, most tragically BAE B against Albany A, the fixture of Div 2 looking at the way things are going. A final score of 12-6 to Albany not a just reflection of the going on and the match sheet. Full teams all around, 5 games set and only 2 games out of 18 lost to less than double figures and then, icing on the cake was the final totted points scores were 258 to 232....26 points, less than 2 a game.......sigh.

BAE B were visitors to Lids last night, not sure how everyone else is finding their 21st century 'uplighting' but I for one prefer the kind illuminating the exterior of historic building, not the white metal ceiling of a sports hall. BAE B came away with a 12-6 win but after strained eyes from finding the shuttle!!

Some time ago, our team captain presented the teamsheet to the opposition. On its return we were informed that the opposition only had 5 players. but they had skillfully selected which number player was missing such that the best player could not have any influence in the game ( a player who regularly won all 6 games).
Surely this can not be right. You could even argue that the 6 player captain should have the right to pick which number is missing - its not his/her fault that the opposition only have 5 players

Have to admit i'm pretty disappointed that somebody wouldn't see the funny side of this. This is the 'Gossip' board - if you want concrete results - there is a results page..

if you don't like it - don't read it - but certainly don't take cheap shots at somebody who is trying to keep the board alive. apart from Mungo there are precious few people who report on matches. The amount of thought that goes into Mungo's reports is admirable.. i'm sure if MR were here he'd agree with me.

oh -and i've removed the offending word from your post...

Would it not be better to check the results page? These are the definitive 'match report' after all.

The result has probably been there for a few days now and clearly shows the match result went in Fleetwood's favour.....

As for 'retarded', maybe a slight over-reaction - it was a play on words and I for one found it very amusing and well written and certainly not 'primary school' material. The word '*' however.....

Despite all his [] that he wrote at least he didn't lead you down the wrong path suggesting that the other team won.

those results are in the batch that i've got to plug into the website. i'm guessing that there isn't anybody from Stanley or Sacred Heart registered to enter their results online..

may i suggest that those teams who already enter their results online nag their opposing team captains to do the same :)

woah there- we put new results on last wednesday.. it's not even been a week yet - and he has sent me some more.. too.

remember - the more people that register and enter their own results themselves on the website - the less we have to rely on our match secretary to process all the sheets he gets..

thanks
